Trip to Mammoth

Finally getting around to share some photos from our Mammoth trip over New Years!  We had the best time.  My sister’s family and some friends have been going every year for a couple years now, and this year we decided to join.  Aside from trying to find all new winter gear (the last time we went to the snow was a couple years ago so we were bascially starting from scratch!) and packing up all this said gear, getting there from Orange County was pretty easy.  The drive was pretty quick and painless which is totally necessary when you’re traveling with a whole pack of kids.

To our disappointment, there was very little snow.  CA was going through heat waves all the up to Christmas so winter wonderland was nonexistent.  Regardless, it was nice to get away to cooler temps and bundle up!  And in general the Mammoth Mountain and lakes area is just beautiful.

We rented an amazing house with plenty of space for 3 families and just within a 10 min drive to the downtown area.  It was really nice to have space to cook meals and a separate area for the kids to play. Most nights we wine and watched a movie or just chit chatted by the giant fireplace in the living room.  It had all the feels of a cabin escape.

Overall, I loved that the trip was relatively relaxing (minus hanging out with 6 kids, of course) – we went tubing one day and all the kids took snowboarding lessons the next.  I can’t tell you how much I loved seeing Jaxson try for the first time and LOVE snowboarding.  He was all smiles until nap time crazies started to kick in.  Word to the wise, don’t have young kids try their hand at snowboarding during or without a nap.  Its such a strenuous activity and they need all the energy they can get.  Next year, I think I’ll have him do the early morning class.   As for me, I happily stayed in the side lines.  I’m not big of snow sports (or really any sport I guess).  I always feel like I’m gonna fall and hurt myself.  So I’ll just stick to enjoying from a distance.

Also, we rang the New Years in the downtown area! The city throws a big outdoor party with live music, food and fireworks at midnight (East Coast time).  A really great way to celebrate with the whole family!

We are really looking forward to going back next year!  Scroll below for photo OVERLOAD. 🙂
