On out wine country weekend, we made a pit stop for a day in Paso Robles. Paso is just a little further north and inland of Santa Ynez valley. We haven’t been in awhile but we love the wine there too! The wineries are a little bit more rustic but it is definitely worth a stop if you’re passing through.
Turley – This winery is one of the best. We stop here everytime we are in town. They are known for and continue to win many awards for their zinfandels. With one of the nicest estates in the area, Turley is a great stop!
Grey Wolf Cellars – We love that this winery also serves food, and really good food I might add. There is a restaurant wind (food truck style) where you can order creative sandwiches like Vietnames style Bahn Mie and others to complement the good wine served. When you come, plan on staying couple hours. In addition to the food and wine, the view and outdoor sitting area is as comfortable as they come!
Nicora – If you are looking for a no nonsense type of wine, make reservations at Nicora. The young founder and wine maker of Nicora will pour you some of his highly rated wines amongs the aging barrels of newer vintages. We really appreciate the investment in the wine rather than a fancy estate.
Castora – I like to visit at least one picturesque winery to capture great photos. And this was the winner! Once you enter, its clear the grounds hosts weddings and specials. Its beautiful, well manicured and encompasses all the charm of wine country.
