Sorry it is taking me a bit to post anything from NYFW. There was a lot to catch up on at home and I wanted to spend as much quality time with the Jaxson, so I gave myself a little break. Jax still asks me if I’m coming back when I drop him off at school (rubbing in the mom guilt). And not to mentioned I was so exhausted. It almost felt like the longest hangover ever. Maybe I just can’t hang in NYC. ha!
But now, a couple weeks post Fashion Week, the fog has lifted and I’m ready to share some of the bests of my NYFW experience. First, I want to begin by saying what an incredible experience it was overall. I know how fortunate I am to have had the opportunity. If there was ever a good testimony of what God can do in life and his ever perfect timing, it would be me in this point of my life. While being at NYFW always been a dream and bucket list item for me, I never really envisioned myself working in anything related to fashion. I build a pretty good career in marketing and it never crossed my mind that I would have a second career that I would start in my 30s! Anyway, a longer story for another time. But I just wanted to put it out there, that God has the perfect plan for you, and if you ask, if you’re faithful and patient, He will reveal his perfect plan in this HIS perfect time. All to say, that I am grateful for the opportunities to share my life and passions with you all here on this blog. All the things and opportunities that come with this job are never lost on me. I know I am very lucky for all of it.
Back to NYFW! Whenever anyone asks me how it was, I say…it was so fun, so overwhelming and SO exhausting. I went back and forth about going since Jaxson was starting pre-school that very same week, and struggled with the thought and #momguilt of leaving him during such a momentous transition in his little life. But I decided about 3 weeks before that I would just bite the bullet. It’s now or never, as they say. And again, its always been a dream to attend Fashion Week, and ever since I realized it was a possibility with the growth of the blog, I had hoped/planned/anticipated my time. I even held off on trying to have more babies until after I experienced my first fashion week. haha! Crazy, I know. But being in NYC, let alone the hustle of NYFW while preggers would be absolutely miserable.
Again…I digress. So I’m just going to get right to it. Here are my 5 highlights of my experience:
The shows (of course!) – The energy outside (with street style photographers snapping away!) and inside is as good as you can imagine it. It felt amazing to be sitting amongst real celebrities and the fashion elite.
Hanging with bloggers friends – I really enjoyed meeting all my bloggers friends who I’ve known (at least digitally) for years, and finally meeting face to face. It is funny because I feel like I know many of them so well (their kids, their routines, their fashion choices, etc) via Instagram, yet by normal standards, we’re basically strangers. My absolute favorite ladies who I LOVE even more after meeting in person are Latisha Springer (of @latishaspringer ), Brooke Webb (of @KBStyled) and Ashlee Knichols (of @ashleeknichols). These girls have gorgeous Instagram feeds, are killing it in the blogger world, and as down to earth as can be. I wished they lived closer. I know we would be great friends! But I can’t forget about my fellow OC gal, Caroline of @CurrentlyCaro. We hardly see other back home, but I loved getting to know her and basically having dinner together every night. She’s as lovely as she is stylish. She is also so classy, smart and just a pleasure to be around! Do yourself a favor and check them out!
Backstage Access – I had the opportunity to go backstage at a couple shows (with Aveda and Redken) to see hair, makeup and all that goes down before big shows. It was one of my best memories. Don’t get me wrong, it was crowded and hectic and basically the fashion world’s version of Grand Central Station during rush hour. But it was so cool to see models eating (really!), the ideas being passed back and forth between stylists, and just the details that go into making those oh-so glam shows!
There’s always somebody who wants to do your hair/makeup – I felt like I had a salon appointment everyday! Salons and beauty brands are eager to dish out their services and products during Fashion Week. It is a great way to connect with influencers and fashion enthusiasts! I actually only made it to one appointment (the downside of scheduling during NYFW will be on another post), but it felt nice to be pampered. I didn’t do any makeup appointments because I’m pretty particular about make-up, and I weirdly don’t like getting my makeup done.
Street styles – I loved seeing all the crazy, trendy, bold and awesome looks of show attendees and just normal people walking the streets. Fashion Week is an opportunity to get creative, and wear pieces you would normally not wear in your day-to-day, and its amazing what people come up with. Me on the other hand, I pretty much stayed true to my usual style. Dresses, floral dresses, embellished dresses….and more dresses! 🙂
I wore these two dresses on the first day of Fashion Week! It was really the only day I got to change into two outfits.
This floral number is so Fall…I love it! I wore it the Shopbop Party, the Noon by Noor and Tadashi Show.
This pearl embellished dress by ISLA is my favorite dress….ever! The details and neck-tie added so much to a basic pink dress. And the flowy structured made it so comfortable for dinner and dancing.
