As they say, the days are long but the years are short. My little man is well on his way to becoming a real person. He walks, communicates with the world {in his own way} and clearly tells us he understands what we are saying and doing. I look at him and have an overwhelming feeling of astonishment. He’s amazing and he’s all mine. What did I do for God to bestow such a blessing on me? I can’t believe this motherhood thing is happening so fast. He’ll be in school soon; Then driving; Then college; Then girlfriends {when he’s 30!} and then a family of his own. I don’t ever want to look back and regret missing moments and milestones. So I realize what I need to do more of…..unplug!
So Today I’m partnering with Pampers to make a #MothersPromise…and that is to be present, like really present. Not in just the physical sense, but in the mental, emotional, and really every sense of the word. Often times I am too busy trying to multi-task that I am half engaged in everything I do. Being a SAHM and blogger, I rely on technology for just about everything. And I’m constantly distracted by the notifications of email, social media and really anything other the child right in front of me.
Sometimes when he’s playing, he’ll look up at me and let out a giant smile or babble some nonsense I assume is story or exclamation of excitement. And it kills me to think there are many times when he looks up and is immediately dishearten by my lack of attention. Maybe he thinks something else is more interesting than him or I love something else. No child should ever feel that way for even a second.
I want to hold this thought with me, and remember my promise to unplug. Focus on my little guy’s constant amusement and curiosity with everything he does; focus on here and now. But I know, life happens. We get busy. Commitments need to get done. And when this happens, I promise to make the time to focus on family. Whether that is a little road trip, a lunch date or just a family walk. Take the time be present with family.
Thanks to Pampers for creating the amazing #motherspromise campaign! Unlike the many promises we make to ourselves in life, I know my Mother’s Promise to Jaxson will be hard to forget. Fortunately using Pampers Premium diapers at home will an everyday reminder. And usually multiple “reminders” a day! ☺ The diapers have actually been a good change for little J’s sensitive skin. It is soft, hypoallergenic and extra absorbent for using overnight! The best feature is the wetness indicator! Check them out at your local Walmart and Walmart.com!
