If there’s one piece of advice I can give pregnant women when it comes to clothes, it’s to shop items that are transitional. What I mean by that is, try to purchase pieces that can not only get you through the bump, but that you can wear after as well. Especially if you’re spending decent cash on something!
With Jaxson, I learned this the hard way (oops!). I ended up with quite a bit of maternity gear that I only got a few months out of. Even though pregnancy can feel long and like you’ll need that much extra room forever, you won’t!
This time around, I’m trying to be more mindful about the pieces I’m purchasing. I’m shopping for more classic items that will transition into years to come and ones I can wear now and later. Earlier in my pregnancy, I tried to stay away from strictly maternity pieces and just size up where I can. But as my body started to change, I realize I needed to start exploring some maternity styles, and invest in pieces that can outlast my bump. While this might seem easier said than done, I promise it’s not! I’ve been able to find so many great options at Macy’s, especially with the A Pea in the Pod and Motherhood Maternity lines. Both brands offer on-trend items with a classic spin, and pieces I know I’ll wear for years to come. Plus, the quality with each can’t be beat.
Take this cropped olive jacket (or this one)from A Pea in the Pod for example. The color and cut are perfect for fall and even spring, and while the cut lends itself to a belly, it’ll fit fine after the bump is gone. Ideal for all the layering coming up, too! Also loving this button down shirt in a similar color (can you tell I love this shade?) and plan on tucking it in or tying it up after baby gets here.
For our mild California winters, I live in crewneck sweaters, so you know I had to get this one from Motherhood Maternity. Cozy but not too thick and I never mind an oversized sweater with leggings for post-baby. Also love this wrap cardigan, as it gives your figure a little shape, bump or not! And of course, a classic pair of skinny jeans that will pair with everything.
I’ll link out to more of the pieces I love for now and later (below), but I hope this helps any of you who are also expecting. Believe me, your budget and body will appreciate having more of these transitional pieces!
