Hope your February is going well so far. Because its the month of Love, John agreed to be on the blog twice. 🙂 He made an appearance earlier this week {see here}, but today we’re talking more about him…well, us.
The men behind the blog are normally never seen or heard from, which is odd right since you all know so much about me from I share here and on social media. And a lot of me is him. He is my partner in crime, baby daddy and my biggest supporter in this blogging life. So today, I’m giving you a peek into the story of US, and sharing just a few random facts about John & Lydia.
1. Multi-Cultural – The two of us together is as multi-cultural as it gets. I’m Chinese/Indonesian and he is Irish/Middle-Eastern. While it can be hard to tell what kind of Asian I am, its clear I’m Asian. But with John, he seems to be ethnically ambiguous to everyone. Whenever we travel, whether its to South America or Italy or Turkey, the locals think he’s one of them.
2. We met at the Club – Like the only club in Orange County. To be clear though, when we met, the place was also a restaurant. Despite the cliche, he was a keeper from the beginning.
3. We made a resolution to travel A LOT before having kids – I contracted the travel bug through John. He was always so cultured, intelligent and had so much life experience which I admired so much. Our first trip together was San Diego, then we decided to go big and went to Australia! It was amazing! That trip solidified my love for travel and definitely for him. When we got married, we decided to be selfish and see much of the world before kids. We took 2, sometimes 3, international trips every year and visited 30 some countries together. They say you know you’re good together if you can travel well together, which was so true for us. I feel so lucky to have found my a partner to journey this life together.
4. We can’t live without…wine and Netflix. That is the recipe for our perfect date night. Seriously. We are major home bodies and love to just cuddle up on the couch on weekends. Especially now that we have Jaxson, going out take so much effort (finding a sitter, getting ready, etc.) so we just have date night on the couch once Little J’s goes to bed. We also have a good wine stash (John is a wino and has quite the collection), so its somewhat annoying to pay $75+ for a bottle of mediocre wine at restaurants. It kind of makes us anti-social most of the time, but we’re ok with it! With our busy lives, our down time is so limited. So I think its ok to be selfish and stay home in PJs on a Friday night! Now you know what we do every weekend.
5.Traditions – We usually forgo presents for Birthdays and take a big trip. Experiences make the best memories, not luxury items or electronics which will be out of style within months. Its fun to remember that we went to Turkey and Jordan for buy 30th, versus getting that “thing” that I now can’t recall. Our birthdays are 2 days apart which makes it convenient and appropriate to celebrate big. This year, we went to the UK, Iceland and Paris to celebrate getting younger. 😉
As for the outfit – I am inspired by two style icons: Gwen Stefani and Cinderella. I guess you can say my taste varies widely. But I’m positive I can’t pull off the extremes of the rocker chic or princess glam, so I kind of mashed them up the two here. And I must say, I love it! I can’t kick the tulle habit guys. We usually put away all the glitter and frill after the holidays, but tulle is something I keep around until after Valentine’s Day. There is something so romantic about the lush textures and full body of a tulle skirt that is perfect to celebrate love.
This tulle maxi skirt is Space 46 from Skylar Belle. They have a great selection so check them out here.
