I don’t think I ever talk about hair here, but this is probably one of the most popular subjects amongst my emails and comments.
Just a quick disclaimer: I am no hair expert and everyone has different textures, lengths, and color…so I can only speak for my hair and experiences. I have very fine, super straight hair, and a lot of it! I’ve always wanted to have big bouncy curls, and I think my mom even permed it once. I might have blocked part of my memory because I almost got a perm as an adult, but my hairdresser convinced me not to. She basically said it would ruin my nice hair. I owe her a huge thanks!
I’ve since given up on wanting a perm and have come to really love my straight hair. Now I just embraced some of the best hair products that keep my hair looking healthy and voluminous. Here are a few of my favorites:
I’ve been using the EVE NYC Clean It Up Shampoo and Soften Up Conditioner for a few weeks. This line has keravis proteins and argan oils which strengthens and moisturizes, respectively, with every use. I usually wash and condition my hair every two or 3 days and feels like it is improving the overall texture of my hair. The best part is you can get the super large size at Costco! Due to laziness and a desire to limit heat exposure, I don’t ever blow dry my hair. Instead, I let it air dry at night. Zero effort and I like that I wake up with extra texture and slight waves. I do however, use a curling iron when I want real curls. I recently started using the T3 Twirl convertible curling iron and it is by far the best curling iron I’ve ever used. It is definitely worth the investment. I love it because it heats up quickly and my curls last all day long, which is rare with my super fine straight hair. I usually use a 1.25” inch barrel for bigger looser waves.
I admit, I’m super lazy with haircuts. Since I always keep my hair long, sometimes I don’t notice when its time to get a trim. But the secret keeping my long hair looking fresh between salon visits is deep conditioning. Philip B makes some of the best products and this deep conditioning rinse is one of my favorites for two reasons: 1) smells amazing, and 2) leaves my hair smooth without the limp and flat look. I only use it once a week or so.
Last but not least, dry shampoo. I’ve been using this one from EVA NYC and I can’t live without it. Especially as a mom, dry shampoo is totally necessary. I’ve used baby powder before, and I actually have no issues with it, not even the white color (I’m pretty good at blending it in). But sometimes I need just something that will make my hair smell a little fresher. If I haven’t washed my hair in a couple days, I want to feel comfident that its not exuded an odor. The smell is the best part of this dry shampoo. Smells fresh and not like big aerosol cans of chemical (I’ve tried those too!)
Let me know if there are any great hair products I should try!
