Edinburgh has become one of my favorite cities in the UK. I just got such a cool vibe during our visit. The capital cit of Scotland has done a pretty great job of maintaining its historic, old town vibe but still providing modern hospitality.
We only stayed in Edinburgh for a couple days because we mainly used it as a stopping place to get to Iceland. But man, I wished we would have planned to stay longer. Also, it was super cold and rained our last day, which made being outdoors a little bit more challenging. With limited time, I definitely wanted to see the main sights which is the Edinburgh Castle. Home of Scottish monarch until about the 1600s, it sits on a giant volcanic rock (or plug) overlooking the entire city. Its beautiful! We parked on the main downtown street and walked up the hill. Its not far at all and you get to see amazing views.
The Castle itself is not grand (as compared to anything in France or even Great Britain) but it certainly upholds all the lavish characteristic of a castle. It didn’t take us long to round the whole thing.
On the hill of the Royal Mile (just in front of the Castle), there is a cool Scotch tasting restaurant called The Scotch Whiskey Experience. You can eat, shop and do a little tasting, which makes this a great stop after the castle. Love the modern decor and friendly staff.

Traveler Tip: There is a parking structure down the hill of the Castle which is super convenient. You can try to drive up the hill and find street parking but I assume you’d have to be very lucky to snag a spot.
