Date Night LBD

With Valentine’s Day coming up in a couple weeks, we’re all trying to think of good fun ways to celebrate with the favorites in our lives, whether they are spouses, sig others or just your fave gal pals.  John and I usually just cook dinner and enjoy a nice bottle at home.  Restaurants get too crowded and charge 4x for what you can get economically the next day or any regular day.
Also, if you’ve been together for ages like us, its hard to get excited about just going out to dinner. It almost seems forced. Sometimes you have to mix it up and do something you wouldn’t normally do, or that you’ve been saving for that special night.  I like to keep in mind that Valentine’s day was made to celebrate love, and ultimately the joy in our lives.  Not how much money chocolate or roses and expensive meals you can indulge in.  I hope you all get inspired to do something you truly love.  Here are some of my favorites:

1.  Cooking Class – Sur La Table has great classes. From dessert making to Italian night, it is a fun experience if you like getting your hands dirty.
2. Dinner Experience – How about eating in complete darkness? Opaque in LA serves up a cool sensory experience.  Or if you’re lucky enough to get into the Magic Castle.  You get the idea.  I am sure there is something different in your city!
3. Movie – Sometimes popcorn and a good movie is all you need to feel loved.
4. Tasting – Whether its wine, beer or a unique tasting menu, experiencing something for the first time together creates great memories and strong bonds.
5. Sunset walks – Some of our best nights involve a walk to the beach with a bottle of wine.  The fresh air and the beautiful light sets the perfect mood.
This year, we’re actually planning to take a quick getaway just the two of us. We will miss little J so very much, but it will be nice to enjoy a nice dinner without taking turns to eat or figuring out who can eat faster to entertain the little monster.   I’ll share where we’re headed later this week.  🙂

As for the outfit – nothing says date nigtht like an LBD. This little number (yes its little and kinda short and probably why I never wear it!) is from French connection, and has delicate and sexy sheer cutouts on the waist and shoulder. I think its super sexy without showing too much.  As for John, I love when he wears tie-less suits.  It looks more effortless but so stylish and classic.

What are your favorite things to do on date night?  Please share.
