On Friday as I was cleaning my beauty cabinet and realized I had quite the collection of SPF primers. Having more than 5 at one time constitutes an obsession, and I had…8, or 9 if you count a small sample of one I got in a goodie bag.
“Less is more” is one of my favorite mottos when it comes to makeup, so I am particularly drawn to products that do double duty. For me, the easiest (and my favorite) way to minimize layers of product is by using a primer with SPF. I have never been able to apply moisturizer, then SPF, then primer, and THEN foundation. It tends to look too cakey and clogs my pores. I have been rotating between different brands and SPF levels the last few months, and found 4 that are at the top of my must-have list. Keeping in mind that all primers works differently with skin types and your preferred foundations, these primers have worked well to provide a clean, soft canvas and minimize blemishes. They are definitely the ones I will buy over and over again.
- NARS {Smooth & Protect Primer} – This product goes on super smooth and creamy, and I love the high 50 SPF. A little more matte of a finish which goes well with longer wear foundations.
- Hourglass {VEIL mineral Primer} – Probably the lightest primer I’ve ever used, it goes on weightless and pairs perfectly with a maximum coverage foundation. It has a low 15 SPF, so I typically use for a date night or evening look.
- Chanel {Le Blanc} – A brightening base that gives that dewy finish I love. I see the immediate illuminated tone of my skin which is perfect for a light tinted moisturizer or something light.
- BareMinerals {Prep Step} – Again, I love a product with high SPF and non-chemical mineral based. It feels good to know you’re applying so much good protection on your skin. It also one of the most moisturizing primers I’ve used.

These sound good. I would want to try the Chanel and Hourglass one. I want the dewy finish and recently have been wanting a better full coverage look.
