I love road trips…specially ones that are only less than 2 hours away. Easy and stress-free travel is the beauty of a staycation in San Diego. But honestly, even if it was 10 hours away, San Diego is still a worthwhile destination. The beaches, the cool easy-going vibe and great food are enough for you to want to plan a trip today. And the weather currently could not be more perfect. Southern California is known for great weather, but this 78-degrees in February is just too perfect for words.
On this trip to San Diego, we stayed at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. It is tucked away and a little more secluded from the Downtown area, which I love. The resort is beautiful with massive grounds featuring Spanish style décor, amazing dining options, picturesque pools and golf for the husband. Basically you don’t ever have to leave. And we didn’t.
The hotel surprised us with a sweet Valentine’s Day setup in our room when we checked in. Rose petals scattered throughout, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries…I mean, I was already in love!
We enjoyed the peaceful mornings outdoors. We found a cozy corner in the Veranda Fireside Lounge and Restaurant area and set up shop for breakfast. I am still dreaming of the mini waffles from the waffle bar. I might be the only one in the world who hates syrups, so I usually have pancakes and waffles with whipped cream. So good!
After breakfast we needed some pool time! I had heard so many amazing things about the spa pool, and it surely did not disappoint. Cabanas and poolside food/beverage service are what vacation dreams are made of. I love a good cocktail by the pool…the fruitier the better! The heated saline water felt so good on the warm day. This pool is reserved for spa guests only, but all the services were booked that day, so we just paid $30 to enjoy the amenities. And seriously worth every penny! The only thing that could have made it better is a massage. But no complaints here. I actually feel so spoiled with this experience since half the country is in 10 feet of snow, and here I am hanging out by the pool. I guess that’s California living’!
On our last night, we grabbed happy hour on the patio of the Avant restaurant, and went back to our room to watch the sunset. Our view overlooking the golf course and lush gardens of RB Inn was just perfect to finish off our weekend.
One of the best things about our stay was how quiet and peaceful. The resort just has a charming and relaxing vibe and I absolutely loved that. Definitely a needed break from real-life.
On the way, we stopped by a winery in Temecula. That is the beauty of this coastal destination. You can enjoy the luxury of a 5-star resort, beaches and wineries within a short drive away.
As for the outfit, the Spanish/Mediterranean vibe of the resort inspired me to rock this off-the-should maxi dress. It is so comfortable, but also a little bit sassy with high side slits. This will definitely be on repeat through the summer!
Speaking of décor, the resort has the best fountains and tile work. I might have taken a hundred photos of fountains alone! Opps.
Keep classy San Diego….we’ll be back soon!
