I have always been a morning person. I have my struggles with the alarm (only snooze like a bajillion times!) but when I’m up, I’m ready to go. My current state in life with a family doesn’t allow me to have a super leisurely morning, so I get up extra early to start a routine to hopefully kick start a productive day! How early you ask? Usually 5:30-6, but I remember my most productive days being the days when I wake up at 4am! I know that is a little extreme, so its not often…because then I usually pass out at 8pm.
The key to my best days seem to start with 5 simple but necessary things for me. And they are….
Drink 32 oz of water
I always keep a Hydro Flask water bottle next to my bed. The minute I get up, I basically down all 32 oz. of water. Not sure if its just become a habit now, but I seem to super thirsty the minute I get up, and I can’t go without that giant bottle of water. It immediately makes me feel awake!
Exercise
I just started BBG (again for like the 5th time) so I am working out with the app 3 times a week then running 3-5 miles once or twice a week. Sometimes I’ll add in a session here and there of pilates. It is my absolute favorite workout but a bit harder to get to and find consistency. Admittedly I do go days and sometimes weeks without a workout, but I know my body and my mind needs it. With just a bit of physical activity, my mind is focused, sharper and my mood much more elevated.
Shower
I love to shower in the mornings. It makes me feel awake, and honestly I just don’t feel right putting on new clean clothes without a shower. And I do it out of necessity since I usually work out 3 (hopefully 4) times a week.
Daily Devotional / quiet time
Focusing my thoughts through daily devotional, scriptures and prayer really helps me gain direction for my day and prepare for anything that comes my way. I simply feel better having spent time with God. I admit daily quiet time has only been part of my routine for about 6 month, but it’s something I can’t go without now. I notice such a difference in my mood and train of thoughts when I don’t have this time in the morning. It seems so church-y to say, but my little time with God increases my joy, my faith and overall attitude which in turns affects the way I speak to people, carry myself and respond to whatever happens in my day. I started it during my church’s series 40 days of Prayer. The challenge was to pray/spend time with the Lord daily to build a deeper relationship with our Savior, and it has changed my life. I can go into this deeper in another post, if you anyone is interested.
As for devotional resources, currently I’m doing Jesus Always and supplemented by various series in She Reads Truth. I have tried other devotional, short and long, but keep going back to these resources. She Reads Truth is an app with various options of devotion and bible reading plans and includes a community so you can go through plans with other and share testimonies. It is a really great app!
Make Green juice
I have never been a breakfast person, so a hearty green juice is as close I get most days to starting the day right. My go-to blend is super easy – a whole bag of organic Power Greens (from Trader Joe’s), 4 chunky pieces of organic coconut, almond milk, blueberries, half an avocado and half a scoop of protein power! That’s it. So easy and so good!
