5 Best Maternity Investments

Well into my third trimester with my second baby, I can confidently say I know a thing or two about maternity investments! I learned so much about what to invest in and what to skip when pregnant with Jaxson that it’s been easier this time around. These are the five things that are a MUST, at least in my opinion, for all mamas-to-be. Treat yoself!

Great fitting jeans

If jeans are a normal part of your routine before getting pregnant, you’re going to want to keep wearing them while expecting. They’re just so easy! And they really come into play any season of the year. But before you buy a cheap pair that doesn’t feel good or try to get by with your regular size, please take my advice on getting a pair that you love. Yes, you’ll only be able to wear them while pregnant, but for those 3-4 months where nothing fits, you’ll be happy you did.

I love this pair of skinny jeans so much and that I’ve bought two (in black version). They go with everything and it’s honestly a relief knowing I have bottoms that are comfortable and cute!  They don’t bunch up at the ankle which is a problem with most maternity jeans.  I think brands think pregnant ankles need extra room too.  Who knows!  I also LOVE this pair flare jeans!  I debated them for awhile, but they have become a pair that I reach for the most, especially when I want to go for a dressier look.  They elongate my legs and make me look so tall!  When you’re carrying extra weight in my the mid section, I am all about anything that gives me a bit of height.

Body oils

Between itchy skin and the dreaded stretch marks, good quality body oils are really important. I use the Mio Tummy Rub Oil and seriously can’t live without it. It hydrates my skin and it helps with the prevention and lightening of stretch mark scarring. You can even rub some on your booty, thighs (inner and outer) and chest since those areas are likely growing as well.  I used it when I was preggers with Jaxson, and so far so good. It takes extra time in the morning and evening (and considerable monetary investment at $40-60 per bottle), but it’s worth it! Plus it’s a little self-love!  I have also heard great things about the Hatch belly oil and the Clarins Tonic Body Treatment oil.

Comfy neutral flats

I live in flats while pregnant, especially once my feet start swelling up and hurting. Heels just don’t cut it after a while (at least for me), so it was important for me to buy a couple pairs of flats that I could wear most days. The best part here is that you can wear them long after pregnancy, like when you’re running after your toddler in a few years!  So in this area, I let myself splurge a little on a designer pair.  🙂

Undergarments that actually fits

Let’s talk bras and panties, because hello, we wear them daily! You might be able to get away with your regular undies for a few months, but by 4-5 months, things will probably change. I swear by Hanky Panky underwear pregnant or not, but when expecting, I size up. As for bras, things here change more quickly if you know what I mean 😉 Since your breasts are already sore, give them love with a bra that fits. It makes your clothes look better and overall it really helps my confidence while preggers. I love bras by Spanx or bralettes by Eberjey for hanging at home.

Massages

Yes, this is an extra thing to add to your budget, but it is very much worth it! I try to go monthly, or as often as possible. I swear by them. Not only do they completely relax you, but I’ve found them great for achy pregnant backs, sore joints, and overall comfort. I’ve even found that they help with the nagging headaches that hit me hard. Your body deserves extra attention as it’s working so hard – treat it to a good rub down! Do research in your area for professionals who specialize in pre-natal massages and you won’t look back!

Is there anything that you’ve invested in and been happy you did? What did you skip?
